Overview
Along the coastline, a narrow corniche paves the way between the small towns of the Italian Riviera for drivers, bikers, and walkers alike. The road comes to an end in the quiet fishing village of Portofino where the building facades are painted in pastels that compliment the natural hues of the land in which it is nestled. While small, the town boasts high-end boutiques and seafood restaurants that fringe the cobblestoned Piazzetta, overlooking the harbor which is filled, in the warmer months, with yachts and boats of both locals and those simply stopping in. From the city square, a path winds around the mountainside to the 16th century fortress, Castello Brown, and continues up to a panoramic view of the Ligurian Sea. Just below, waves of turquoise crash into white foam as they dissipate into the transparency of the surrounding water. The town itself, can be seen below, as people mill about and boats sail in to anchor down for the afternoon.
